Letter: The towers fell on all of us

I want to thank you for your recent front page cover in Spanish. I am a New York-born daughter of Puerto Rican parents who migrated in the 1950s.

I love the Spanish language and did not really learn to speak it fluently till I was in my mid-20s. English is my first language. I find it interesting that although you explain in the paper inside, some people still took offense. Are there not more important things to complain about than a front cover in Spanish? Are we not all human beings?

Here some people seem to resist learning another language. There is a resistance to people who are considered “outsiders,” but we have all heard how this country was built by immigrants — and they were NOT all of European descent. Please. Don’t let another language be the thing that keeps you from meeting people of other cultures and ethnicities.

When the towers fell, sadly, they fell on all of us. Let us rather argue, fight and speak out against injustice in all its ugly forms.
